I like the 1911 platform myself, although I've sold both of the models I used to own. I'm practicing the KISS principle, and all my defensive handguns are now either "safe action /striker fired" or they are DA/SA. I want to have a gun I can carry without worrying about remembering any safety.
I have always felt that a long slide on a semi auto does not make it more difficult to conceal nor significantly slower to draw but, it sure aids pointability and controllability in rapid fire.
As for concealment, it's the grip frame of a handgun that can make it too big to conceal, so I like the idea of a chopped grip.
