Cross bladed Axe

doesnt appear heavy enough for hardwoods

Maybe, maybe not, but it would certainly be heavier for the guy swinging it. It is a good concept, and if it works as intended, great, but either way it will not double the speed of splitting for the simple fact of slowing down the guy using it because of the added weight. It may be faster, but it won't double the speed.

A single blade, traditional ax will also be much more useful for when the wood is split, but still hanging on by a few threads, and this happens pretty often while splitting wood. That's my opinion, anyway.

Funny, I haven't used an ax to split in a while...I always use a wood buster.
