The owners apologized and said they had never done that before. Wife had told me 3 weeks prior at a BBQ we invited them to (new to area) that one of the pit mixes had already bitten 2 or 3 people, (one being a small child). Husband said he could not blame me if I had shot them, probably got a different reaction if I had shot one or all of them. We live in the country, but there are still leash laws. If there is a next time I will fire 2-3 warning shots into the ground and see what happens, that will leave about 5 for the dogs if needed.

I often run without my gun (hate the extra weight) and have often thought about running with a knife or even cell phone for such an emergency. I think after your incident I may have to revisit the idea. glad all went well for you though.

Have you considered taking pepper spray? It is very light and unobtrusive. I always carry now because I was bitten once by a dog while going for a run. It won't happen again.
