I’m biased if you look at my avatar. I’m pretty sure the 15 took out the balloon and gave credit to the F-22. F-15 guys are known for their humility.

Although the Aim-9X is still referred to as "IR heat seeker", it really uses "IR Imaging" to lock on and track a target. It kind of uses it's sensors to develop an IR image of the target then only tracks that image, so heat is really not an issue. As a result, it's much harder to fool the missile with expendables (hot, really HOT, flares). Spitting out a bunch of bright and hot expendables doesn't fool the missile because they don't fit the target IR image/fingerprint.
Distraction so they could release a terrorist.
