CB/GMRS radio help

I think it was about 18 watts, with peaks up to maybe 24. Nothing crazy.
I’ve got some buisness class Motorola handhelds and bas/vehicle mount.
I they have 100watt capability, but probably be better turned down Basic
Y short range short wave. License is cheap and easy.

10 years ago there was a "bench guy" at B and B Hobby in Snellville that was pretty savvy with CBs, but he retired. They sold a bunch of CB radios too in addition to the usual hobby shop stuff.

Antron99 is a common half wave, you could build something equal using scrap wire and a SO-239 connector (and a tall tree limb), hams call the wire one’s J-Pole antenna’s. Advantage of Antron half wave is no tuning ring and no ground radials but disadvantage is 1 long 18’ stick, more susceptible to damage from high wind.

Apparently they are still sold online.

I was thinking GMRS. Looked liked the license was only $70 fpr 10 years. Was under the understanding that CB is dead/dying.
No one with GMRS actually gets the license.

It’s technically required but i don’t know a single person who bought a pack of radios and actually got the license. we bought em and used FRS and GMRS where I used to work, think we got radios that had both in the same unit.
We used em for years with no license and the feds never came knocking on our door.

same with a amplified CB, technically illegal but no one cares unless your transmissions are interfering with govt communications or your neighbors cable TV or bleed over into the ham bands.

Lots of fleet owners don't allow them.
Lots of fleet owners don't allow them.
The company my son drives for wants the drivers to have em.
But they haul oversize flatbed loads and sometimes use escort/pilot cars
They just don’t want drivers using amps, so most of their drivers get the export radios with the amps built in.
