I've owned a lot of .22 pistols. Ruger Mk I/II/IIIs, Walther P22, S&W 22a, etc. - they've all been sold in favor of Browning Buck Marks.
There's a number of reasons:
Trigger - The Brownings have the best trigger out there for affordable 'plinking' pistols. There's also a cheap (free!) & easy trigger mod called the heggis flip that will make it even better. The target models have adjustable sears for even better feel, and those triggers can be fitted to other models.
Barrel Change - With the Ruger pistols the s/n is a part of the barrel - not so with the Buck Marks. This allows you to buy new barrels without going through a FFL - much easier and slightly cheaper in my book.
Accessories - The buck marks have a huge aftermarket following. Want better grips? Threaded barrel? Better sights? It's all out there.... Even OEM parts are easy to find & easy to get from Browning, and mags are available from lots of sources for $25 each or so.
Cleaning - The BM's are much easier to clean than Rugers. Not that the Rugers are hard once you get the trick down, but having both sides of the receiver open makes for an easier quick wipe-down, and a couple screws means you can take everything apart.
Accuracy / Dependability - The BM is right up there with any of the decent pistols. Sure, the more expensive target pistols are better, but they also cost a lot more.
So here' some Buck Mark porn:
