i might be mistaken it's hard to tell from pic...but don't think he is attached to tree via a belt or safety harness..

Looks like there is a "fall arest" installed on the tree. Some tower climbers call them a "sissy wire".

I'd do it...
...but there's no need for it. Kind of stupid really.
I also wear a safety harness and when climbing into my lock-on stands I typically have a safety line so I'm hooked in from the moment I leave the ground. I prefer a lock-on over a climber any day.

No thanks. I wouldn't want to climb that distance in the summer with light clothes on, let alone in the winter with coveralls and heavy boots.

I think you guys have the wrong idea. He is just installing the stand to give him a place to stand while he cuts the limbs with his chainsaw.
