Ballpark - Cutting the slide of a Glock 23 Gen4

I've been tinkering with turning my Glock 23 into a USPSA gun (I haven't shot USPSA, but interested in it). But for that price I may just keep the Glock as my car gun and get something bigger to shoot matches
 
I agree with your thought process here. You could probably buy an MOS gun from your local dealer and rock it better than a 23.

There is no advantage to shooting .40 in USPSA Carry Optics Division (where the 23 would reside). You can fit fewer rounds in the allowed 140mm-long magazine (18-19 versus 23-24 in a 9mm). You get no credit for Major Power Factor in Carry Optics (everything is scored Minor), so you'd be taking the brunt of .40 recoil for nothing.

I'd get a 17 MOS and run with it without looking back....
