If you angle the steel at 45degs in the mount you can bring pistol around 10-15yds or so.
Same with rifle, a angled mount will allow you to shoot steel at 30yds with some heavy hitting rounds. If its flush mount I have shot /5" Ar500 at 50yds with no damage to the plate for years on in.
I have also shot 3/8" AR500 at 30yds and cratered the hell out of it on a flat mount.
So its all in the thinkness and angle of hanging.
