There have been calls to step up the game in atlanta.

A fresh and non-rusted 55 gallon steel can can deflect or stop many .22LR rounds, and probably buckshot from a shotgun too. It would take a straight on hit, nearly 90 degree angle to the surface, to reliably penetrate.
That's not counting layers of plywood around the steel.

(What they're describing seems like way too much work for a shield to block baton blows or thrown objects, or punches.)

In all the pics I've seen the 55gal barrels were of the plastic variety not metal. We're dealing with dope heads here not Vikings.
