Does anyone here shoot competitions? The shooting part is easy
but I do not know anything about starting up, where to start, and
especially how the scoring works.

Anybody care to take a stab at explaining this the best they can?

Only been to a few shoots, here goes my 2 cents.
Most of the 3D shoots i have attended have 20 targets scattered through the woods. As you approach a target area you will find a stake in the ground, some have more than one stake, (for different levels of experience).First you have to guess the distance (yardage) from stake to target.
Now, the 3D target has scoring rings in the kill zone of the animal. the center (small) ring is 12, the next bigger ring around that area is the 10 ring and then around that is the 8 ring, outside of the 8 ring is the rest of the animal, that has been scored as 5.
The average shooter wants to score 10 on each target, 20 targets X 10 points is 200 or "even". As you hear people discussing their score they will say up or down, this is in reference to "even"
I am not a "pro", just a novice shooter that usually has one goal, "bring back the same amount of arrows i started with".

Have fun and enjoy the outdoors and fellowship, do not forget the bug spray.
