I know someone who swapped an ALH TDI motor into one. The guy is getting over 35 MPG with it.

i have an 05 TDI jetta with a bit over 215k miles. I need a new clutch soon and have done two timing belts, but other than that, it's been normal maintenance. I get 41-42mpg just about every fill up, and even pulling my trailer (aluminum trailer w/ dirt bike on it) I still get 35mpg. good stuff.

I've got a buddy that's into all the aircooled VW's, he has at least one vanagon if you need a contact.

A porsche engine would be cool, but obviously not practical or cheap.
