Acceptable group size from an AR-15?

My Rock River Coyote rifle will print 3 shot groups you can cover with a dime. But I mostly get around 1 inch groups with the rest.

I’ve got stag arms with fluted stainless match sabra defense barrel with 1 hole at 100 yards for 5 round group ! Holes touching at 200’yards ! Colt factory a3 about 2 inches at 100 yards ! I was shooting 69 grains federal gold medal match 223 Ammo in both!

I pulled this group from my DDM4v7 a little while back. The gun is practically stock except for a new charging handle and a larue trigger. Pretty respectable group from a 16" 1/7 twist barrel? I can't imagine what I can do with heavier projectile since these are 55gr handloads.

**This is a 100 yard group.

What is the group size? I'm not sure what I'm looking at.

I'd call this acceptable....especially from a $400 Del-ton 20" @ 300yds with iron sights.

What ammo were you using?

Also, found the size of the targets. Here's the data for your's.

(a) NRA No. SR-3-Enlarged aiming black for use in 300-yard rapid fire
matches only. Scoring rings the same as the SR target, with the 8-ring
in the aiming black.
Aiming Black-(inches)--Rings in White-(inches)
X ring--------3.00 _________ 7 ring--------25.00
10 ring-------7.00 _________ 6 ring--------31.00
9 ring-------13.00 _________ 5 ring--------37.00
8 ring-------19.00

What components did you use? What kind of barrel is it? What groups did you get?

Range pickup brass
55gr fmj from everglades
26.3gr CFE223
CCI SRP.
2.200 OAL

Pulled this right off DD's website
  • BARREL: Chrome Moly Vanadium Steel, Cold Hammer Forged, 1:7 Twist, 16″ Government Profile, Mid-length Gas System, Chrome Lined, Mil-Spec Heavy Phosphate Coated, and HP/MPI Tested

It's a .8" group

I'm not sure how to read that computer screen.
What did it say the "group size" was at its widest point?

FWIW, I've yet to test my AR with a good scope, a solid rest, and quality ammo.
Shooting Wolf or Tula ammo from a field rest across my range bag, using a cheap, dim,
3X scope at 100 yards, I get 2" groups most of the time. I've done better, but that could be good luck, just like the few bigger groups I got could've been bad luck.

One day I'll equip the rifle and my gear for a serious test, and I'll try to get 1 MOA with some quality brass-cased ammo and real copper-and-lead bullets.

The mean radius is .4" so I think I pulled off a .8" group. I definitely need more practice though.

I don't think I would like that range?

Hah, it's not for everyone. It's governor's gun club in kennesaw, close to me and they have a 100 yard tube in the basement. Good for when I need to zero in an optic without driving 1-2 hours out. Also no fudds and random kids flexing to their friends to worry about.
