"AC just needs a charge"

Had a Honda van that the AC just wasn't cutting it one summer in Florida while the wife was visiting her parents. Since it was under warranty, my lovely bride took it to a Fl dealership that said the freon was "low". So they charged it.

A month later, back in Georgia, the AC just isn't acting right. So I took it to a dealer and the service "manager" (obviously never turned a wrench in his life) comes out to say:

"Your van had X kilograms of Freon!"

So I asked, "and how many kilograms should it have?"

He got that blank look so I ignored the signs and went into the bay and spoke with the mechanic.

Yes, it was overcharged a bit (like 0.05- 0.1 kg?), but he'd traced the issue to a bad relay. It was an intermittent fault. One new Honda relay, and voila`, problem solved.

Bottom line: even the dealer will be happy to "charge" your AC system if it means a making a buck.

Bring your junkers to me and I will see to it that you drive out with a better junker than you drove in with and I will have a pocket full of money
