Finally, after nearly four years of war and an estimated 111,606 dead or missing and another 253,142 wounded American military personnel in the the Pacific Theater , the surrender of the Japanese Empire is official.

After Pearl Harbor, Nimitz was personally sent by FDR to command in the Pacific and to not come home until he was in Tokyo Bay accepting Japan's surrender... He did just that.
