I hit 5k on fathers day last year. They give you the full 5k but you get taxed at the end of the year. We ended up paying 1400 on the 5k in taxes

I know. I hit 10,000 and got 6700.00
At that time we could show losses against winning and get money back at tax time. Now if I was low income I would get money back. But I pay taxes every year.

When I hit 1200.00 I got 100%.
But now they tax on all. They use to let us show losses against winning but not anymore. One guy hit 25k and was audited 1998. He took a bag of losing tickets and opened the bag on the floor. My friend hit 10,000 and got 6700.00. He was able to get it back at tax time since he was 19 and in Jr College with income under 12k.

I think you can write off your looser tickets if you saved them.
