OK- my dad has a 1982 Datsun 280 ZX, all factory original, always stored in a garage. He's looking to sell it. We recently replaced the battery, but she still won't start. Bad starter? Perhaps. Anyone know a good place to find a value on this car? Black on gold, not the turbo, new clutch, Michelins all around, low mileage...

Anyone here interested?

Pics for value, one persons "good" condition is definitely not what others see.

As far as your starting problem. Could be many many things. You have left way to many details out.

Does the starter have a solenoid? If so if look at that. Some vehicles they are fender mounted and not on the starter. Far as value, it's intrensic. Right buyer, market, etc. As mentioned above get a gauge for what the others in similar condition are bringing.

Hopefully a new starter or solenoid will fix it. Electronic issues are fairly common on these cars, and it can be irritating tracking down problems.

One thing - if the car has an automatic transmission it kills the value a goid bit. There are alot of entusiasts that collect these older Z cars, but they are generally looking for 5 speeds.

I'd check starter interlock switch on the clutch pedal first
If it has one Designed to keep idiots from starting the car in gear

Get a test light and start tracking the circuit

Check at the starter first and work your way back to the relay. (Which may be on the starter itself or on the fender ). Then track it back to th ign switch and battery

Also check all the ground cables from he battery to the engine block and body

If you're getting power to the starter when you turn yhe key. Try having one person hold the key while another person smacks the starter with a hammer
