2004 Toyota Corolla engine shutoff while driving and engaging the cruise control.

Anyone heard of this or had it happen? While driving on the highway a friend engaged the cruise control and the cars engine shutoff. He was able to get to the side of the road and then turned the cruise off and the car started and is acting fine.

I know there was a large recall on corollas… don’t know if this has something to do with it?
