Just picked up a 1998 Vulcan 500. 9k on the clock and it had been sitting for a year. Got a pretty good deal on it and I hooked up a battery and it cranked in a couple of seconds. Despite the year old gas and gummy carbs, it purred like a kitten. Doesnt appear to have been dropped. Minor cosmetic issues (including a small dent in the tank that I did ).
Check list:
Front and rear wheel bearings
sprocket condition
On the list of immediate repairs:
new battery
Clean Carbs
Dump old gas and clean tank
Oil/filter change
Brake fluid flush
replace turn signal (works but dangly... lol)
clean and lube chain
Likely repairs:
Replace oil pan gasket
Flush coolant
replace vacuum petcock and fuel line
It seems to be in really good shape for a running, low milage, female owned, $1000 bike.
Anything else experienced Vulcan owners can recommend for maintenance? I am looking for a shop manual, but only found a haynes. I am quite partial to the clymers but was unable to locate one. Any info would be appreciated.
