These wouldn't be bad to have. It's not as good as the 'pumps' you can get, but would be ok for single-person use directly from a water source.

Saw someone with one of these who used it to fill a pan for cooking. He would fill his mouth, then spit it into the pan, repeat until full. Seems like you would have to be right by a water source for this to be useful.

I have a spring coming out of the ground near my house, a fairly sizable creek borders my lot and I do a fair amount of hiking. I figured better than nothing... but maybe not?

I used it while on a hike. Drank right out of the stream with it. Water was moving though.
