“Masters of the Air” gets premier date. Movie history of the 8TH USAAF including on the “Bloody 100th” based at Thorpe Abbotts.

My grandfather was a B24 crew member in the 8th. Really looking forward to this
Those men fighting 20,000 ft above the ground for 8-9 hour missions, in sub-zero temps, unpressurized planes and over enemy territory fighting both fighters and flak were true heroes especially in 1943-44 when they didn’t have the P-51 escorts. More men died in the 8th AF than all of the Marines killed in WW2 and that’s not taking away from the USMC.

I know you are proud of him as you should be. Do you know which group or squadron he was with? This website has a ton of information on the USAAF in England and Europe. https://www.americanairmuseum.com/

446th bomb group. I flew on a B 24 with my dad last year. It was an amazing experience and really made me realize what those bomber crews went through. It takes so much strength just to hold those .50 cal waist guns still in the airstream, I cant imagine doing it for hours in sub zero temps

I’ve jumped from the bomb bay of a B-17 (the former Nine-0-Nine) and we wanted to jumped from the B-24 “Witchcraft“. Where the B-17 had doors that swung down so we could staddle the bomb bay and drop straight down without fear of hitting anything, the B-24 doors rolled up and inward and with the gears, rods and other mechanics there was too big a chance of getting hung up or fingers and feet getting crushed.

That's awesome I've never seen that memorial before. Is there any way to look up the individual aircraft by their nose art?
