Interesting pistol - thanks for the review. I'm still a buck mark fan.
BTW, I think that all of the older slab-sided BMs with the silver frame are actually nickle-plated. Mine is, anyway (the barrel is in storage), and all of the ones that I've seen personally are the same way.
That's funny. As I was doing the paperwork to ship the Snider-Enfield home I was offered $600 for it. I passed, and it's hanging in a place of honor in my study.
I didn't mean to buy another rifle at the market yesterday. I've already gotten a couple, plus various knives, swords, and axes. This carbine, however, proved irresistible. It's a Snider-Enfield, which is a cartridge conversion of a muzzle-loading firearm. Add the mother of pearl inlays and I...
I've heard a different explanation on why they discontinued them. What I heard was that when Ruger switched over to a longer frame for the SP101 to accommodate .357, they had a bunch of the shorter frames left over. They made the .22's to make use of those frames, and when the frames were gone...

Yes, the gold trigger adds some bling, but the good news is that it's easy to remove and refinish to something you'd like better. There's also some aftermarket triggers out there that come in other colors.
My Silhouette w/10" Barrel
My Buck Mark Carbine - Uses the same magazines as the pistols. Great gun, but I find myself picking up my 10/22 when it's time to head to the range.... (BTW, it's for sale if you're interested - just look under my user name)
I've owned a lot of .22 pistols. Ruger Mk I/II/IIIs, Walther P22, S&W 22a, etc. - they've all been sold in favor of Browning Buck Marks.
There's a number of reasons:
Trigger - The Brownings have the best trigger out there for affordable 'plinking' pistols. There's also a cheap (free!) &...
