In the ponds I'm used to fishing, crickets catch 20 times more bluegill and various pan fish than worms. I agree about the hotdogs.....but don't like telling my secrets. Never heard of using bacon but it's really the same salty brine that brings um to hotdogs.

Indian Springs State Park is only about an hour from you. My cousin used to take his son when he was younger there a couple times a year. They have caught a lot of fish out of the lake. Invest in a used john boat or something similar though. The banks are not as productive. Best of luck to you...
I caught many, many, many a bass, bluegill/brem growing up with a Zebco 202. By the time I retired it at 20 the bearings where so worn the reel would "chime" when turned. The rod fell apart but that old reel is on a shelf in a place of honor. As others are saying, a 33 is a great choice at this...
