Choke was added later.
Can't state positively for Savage. but Rem and Win did not mark chokes on barrels that had factory adjustable chokes, which was a factory option.
This one is marked cylinder, which is the appropriate choke for the purpose.
Yeppers.
I have exactly the same gun, 7 X 57 mm Mauser. Bought it approx. 1964 for $30.00. Saved up paper route money. Still have it because it was the first rifle I ever bought.
Very serviceable little rifle. Hunted with it for years as is (no scope, iron sights). Reasonably accurate for...
You have to be aware of shilling on gunbroker.
instead of focusing on the highest one or two bids, sort of take an average, then figure out why one or two are out of range.
i had exactly zero expectations, so I guess it lived up to those.
Truthfully, i had no idea what the sling was, or how it worked. Looked it up on the interwebs. It didn't unwind freely, which wasn't a big surprise and I didn't want to mess with it for fear of breaking something.

I had a Model 31 with...

I have 3, 2 .22's and a .320 Rook that I haven't decided on what I'm going to do with.
All in very nice shape considering age, use.
BTW, shameless plug, I have a box of Remington .30-40 Krag I can let someone have for a really good price, picked up in Athens.
You need to shoot those bad boys.
I see these move at auctions every once in a while. They are great shooters.
Unless you are a serious collector of militeria who needs all the accoutrements, IMO the price is way high.
The ones I've seen in the last couple of years, straight unaltered guns in average condition go for $350 to...
Interesting historical factoid.
For years the round was called the 8 X 57 "J"S - actually still is. So what does the "J" stand for? All sorts of theories.
Relatively recent research indicates that the German designation was the 8 X 57 "I" S - but when the name was converted to English, it...
