Ok. So my granny recently gave me this and I'm trying to figure out exactly what I have and how much it is (or isnt) worth. Also would like to date it if possible. So to preface this I should say I know zilch about mausers so explain to me like I'm 5. The stock has no markings whatsoever. No hand guard. Kinda funky short stock. No barrel bands or bayonet lug so im at a loss for what happened here.. All the serial numbers do match however except there isn't one on the stock or barrel that I can see. By placing a rod down the barrel to the bolt I measure approximately 22 and 1/8 inches. The entire rifle measures approximately 41.5 inches. Was the barrel replaced with some aftermarket or something? That would explain the missing hand guard, etc. Maybe some aftermarket, non original stock? Hoping someone can help me out here. Thanks. 20211012_144152.jpg20211012_144041.jpg20211012_142222_resized(1).jpg20211012_143841.jpg20211012_142222.jpg20211012_142308.jpg20211012_141830_resized.jpg20211012_142222_resized.jpg20211012_141830_resized.jpg20211012_142117.jpg20211012_141804.jpg20211012_141937.jpg

Looks like a sporterized 1895 small ring, cock on closing, Mauser originally from Chile. Most likely chambered in 7x57 Mauser. Barrel looks original. Stock is probably original, but has been cut down and handguard discarded. Value is low due to not being in original military configuration. Depending on buyer, could range from $125 or if barrel is good to $175….. maybe.

Yeppers.

I have exactly the same gun, 7 X 57 mm Mauser. Bought it approx. 1964 for $30.00. Saved up paper route money. Still have it because it was the first rifle I ever bought.

Very serviceable little rifle. Hunted with it for years as is (no scope, iron sights). Reasonably accurate for a service rifle that has has been re-done. Eventually I ground the lobe off the trigger to change it from a two stage to a single stage trigger.

Killed several deers with it over the years, one shot kills with the traditional 7 X 57 140 gr. RN SP. all one shot kills, just as dead as if shot with some modern go fast bullet. I still take it out a couple of times a year for nostalgia sake, still have some 1970s SP I hunt with.

Value - no clue, It's not original, it's a Model 95, it's not drilled and tapped, it shoots a round a lot of modern hunters consider "marginal", William Bell be damned - all negatives for someone who has to have the latest and greatest. . Would be a great rifle for a youth or someone who wanted a carbine length gun in an easy shooting caliber. Looking at the prices in the S&S, I'd say $2-300.
