I’ve been looking for a better .223 powder, but have a lot of 4895 for my .308 loading. Anybody ever use it for .223? I have a good bit of 62gr hpbt and fmj that I would like to load up. I have found data for it, but it looks like it is better with heavier bullets.
I’m loading 5.5gr of N320 under a 230gr RN in my .45’s and I am liking the way it runs. I want to load up some 9mm, so I started looking at others. The 165gr interest me as well as the 147. The 3N38 offer a stout velocity for heavy 9mm
VV has load data for 3N38 and 165gr Xtreme RN in 9mm. Max load renders 981fps per their data which seems like a nice subsonic 9mm load.
anyone have any experience with this combo?
I have heard they can be finicky. If you haven’t run a progressive before, the best advice I can give is start out slow. Concentrate on the same principles you would with any other press. After you get used to it all, the speed will come from efficiency and the mechanics.
I’ve found if I...

The screenshot I posted in the first response was from VV load data. I love the 147gr 9mm, especially when it’s moving at 1,207fps...
Just curious, but why would you want to run a higher pressure than you have to? VV has published data above your velocity requirement with a 147gr projectile. Are you specifically looking for high pressure to operate a muzzle brake or compensator?
I’m having this same issue right now using RCBS dies. Never had it happen before, over 1k 308 reloads, it just started. I have to mess with the adjustment, but post your findings.
I have loaded and shot thousands of 200 and 230 grain 45 plated. I have used Xtreme, Berry’s, and Ranier, always had good results. You won’t have to worry about the plate coming off the 45, for the 10mm get a “thick plate” bullet since you’ll be flirting with 1,200fps on the top end.
