My father was a construction superintendent.
Discussing one time what he looked for when he hired someone (way before computers and background checks), he said he would never hire a pipe smoker.
spent too much time messing around with it, left a mess.
I smoked a pipe for years, I enjoyed it...
Propane torch will work, just gets a little spendy.
What I use for powder coating.
Way back in the day, I used charcoal grill. Works well melting, will maintain temp, just hard to control temp.
If that's the way you want to go, check out some pawn shops, Cl for a propane campstove, because...
I have a buddy that does this -sets up entire lines of battle with lead soldiers he casts and paints.
I cast jigs.
Good soft lead is getting hard to find because so much is recycled, and harder alloys get thrown in the mix.
You will find that a lot of people selling "soft lead" don't know...
A solid dose of ground cayenne in your feed will out think the squirrels. Birds can't taste it, doesn't bother them.
I actually take peanut butter, briefly microwave it so that it's loose, and mix as much cayenne into as I can, and then put pats of it in strategic locations on the feeder...
Most of the public buildings in Georgia and across the south built before WW II have cornerstones laid by the local Masonic Lodge. Check it out next time you visit one.
My father helped build the Masonic Temple in Atlanta - pretty much everyone who worked on the job was a Mason, this would...
You don't need any really special equipment.
Forstner bit and an extension.
You can use a carpenter's square to jig up a guide. if it's heart pine, you've got your work cut out for you.
i would use two size bits, a small one for a pilot hole because it will be easier to keep straight and...
BTW,want to emphasize just a little bit of Miracle Grow, I mean grains. Or any other fertilizer. If you get carried away, you will get swamp water overnight.
You can root suckers by just letting them sit in water a few days, I go to the trouble of using distilled water, a few grains of Miracle Grow, let them sit where they get indirect sun. As noted above, funky water is not bad as long as it doesn't smell like sewage.
They will also root readily if...
I have one and a collection of lenses. Still use it some but it's getting harder to do.
I go to a lot of yard sales and auctions, and always looking for 35mm.
Sad truth is it doesn't bring very much. I'm in a college town, so a lot of old hipsters have some good equipment, and it just bring...
I'm a big fan of DRIPs in solid companies, in my case a utility in a hot (growing area) of the country. The stock itself isn't going to show the appreciation of some hot stock, but it's not going to go bust either. As a regulated enterprise, the dividend is essentially guaranteed.
I've had...
Appleton is a big supporter of shooting sports BTW.
Used to come to a lot of big sporting clay shoots, especially in FL, and have a "tasting" booth. Lots of scores went down the next day. They would bring in the really good stuff - didn't even taste like cheap rum
3-4 years.
I gave up on asparagus because you almost have to there when the spear breaks the ground. By the end of the day it will be too tough to eat if it's a warm spell, left them alone because they are a pretty plant anyway.
Try straw bales for a container. Tomatoes will love it, and you get nice clean disease free tomatoes. Will work with any bush plant, squash peppers even watermelon.
End of the season, bale goes into compost.
This.
Sharpening in one of the footnotes that you can get totally consumed with. Some people it's a goal unto itself - they have high power magnifying glasses to examine their edges, and wax eloquent about the molecular structure of the steel in their tools, and that's fine for them.
As FMG...
I have a piece of polished granite I picked out of a scrap pile in Elberton that I use for that. Heavy, doesn't move on you.
A lot of people swear by a piece of MDO with some sort of polishing compound. I have never tried that.
You don't need your cutting tools that sharp for turning. You need to sharpen them frequently.
I've been to seminars with Philip Moulthrop, world famous turning family in Atlanta, and he doesn't use an elaborate system for sharpening. In fact he uses surprisingly "common" tools - but they are...
One thing to remember is that BLO is not waterproof. It will stain if it gets seriously wet.
I have done this on a couple or three stocks, something I picked up, and it works well, but takes some time and prep. It's waterproof.
Sand your stock.
Apply pure BLO
Let dry a little, then sand...
After your first post, I did a search, and there are several You Tube videos on how to distill your own from pump gasoline.
I put it in " I could do that if I had to" but fortunately I don't have to.
Watching some these guys cook gasoline over an open flame in a retort (also pronounced "bomb")...
