If you're on a deer run look at the bottom of steep ravens. I've found them in the water and I suspect they fall off when they hit bottom. Possibly if running and the hard stop at the bottom. This was not in the mountain's. I had a farmer friend on the flat land who farmed 10,000 acers. Every spring he'd finds dozens where they dropped in the corn fields. He was always hoping to find sets and even had some for several years off the same deer. It'scool to see the growth from year to year. I never understood how he could spot them in the corn stubble from inside a the cab of a tractor. He was also stingy and would never let any go. As for me most were incidental finds while out hunting Morell's in the spring time. End of April and most of May up North.
