In a Mickey Mouse comic book in the 50's Mickey was out in a boat along with Donald and Goofy. Mickey spotted floating ambergris and announced to everyone that they were going to be rich. Goofy said who would want any old hamburger grease. Anyway, that is the first time I had read/heard that ambergris was the basis for very expensive perfume. Who knew.

I recall Mickey or Daffy or someone being swallowed by a whale in a children's book, if I remember correctly. I've probably heard of ambergris before, but it's not something that really comes up in everyday conversation.
