Where’s all the old motorcycles? Where’d the knuckles, pans, and shovelheadz go?

some of y'all showed interest above about the Sumping problem

here is some info and photos of a recent check ball seat clean-up

friend has the sumping problem on his Shovelhead
he just installed a New S&S oil pump (well NEW does not mean perfect)
he says, "Actually leakage is worse than in the old pump"

I took the pump off and disassembled, here's what I found
and how i cured the problem

photo of the check ball seat, at 10 o'clock you can see a cut going into the seat (the inner black ring is the ball seat, It shows up as black since its angle is different)

So, took old Evo pushrod (the end ball measures .33 same as the check ball) and lapped out the seat with 330 grit lapping compound. which made it a little better

well i got tired of doing this by hand and not getting the results i was looking for
so
i put the pushrod in a drill and with more lapping compound and a little more time it now looks good
much better than the 1st photo
and
after testing before install showed no leak

as I said above this is a New pump
it could have been sent back to S&S for a replacement
but
with this Great riding weather who wants to wait 2 weeks, when i can fix it in 1/2 a day

Anyone know anyone that hoards motorcycles or parts? I had a conversation with dad about where all the bikes go and low and behold on American pickers we see a guy with a barn full of panheads. Anyone know anyone like that here I’d love to go digging or have the opportunity to see it all.

My Dad’s cousins has three Vincent black shadows and a black lightning.
He bought them all off one man when he was a teenager and has had them in his barn for the past 60 years.
I remember looking at them when I was a kid.
He also collected old cars and he had an old jaguar that he let
me sit inside.....I remember it had more toggle switches than a freakin fighter plane.
I musta have sat in that car for an hour flipping switches and acting like I was driving it.
His cousin was cool and let me mess around with all the cars.

The bike started out as a 1984 shovelhead. It was pretty used and abused it only had 22k miles but you could tell that the last owner hadn’t been a good steward of the machine.

To back my claim here’s a picture of the rocker boxes that were for some reason covered in JB weld.

I picked up this bike for less than 2500 soI decided that even though with it being an 84 it was a perfect opportunity to chop a bike and not have that much in it. Here’s the frame right before I sent it out to get hardtailed this was 1 week after I got it. It got sent out on Friday.

While I was at it yesterday I took the motor to the car wash and sprayed it off. Much of the high pressure cracked out the JB weld and I was able to take the rocker boxes apart. I will probably sent these off for chrome pretty soon.
