You knew that you could brag to the other kids at school when you stayed up late enough to see this, sometime between 1:00am-4:00am, depending on the night and station.

I remember as a kid staying up late enough to see them play the national anthem complete with jet flyover before it went to snow and white noise.

I did not see or even know about tv until I was a freshman or sophomore in hs --
In about 1948 I saw a baseball game on about a 9"round screen - the set was as big as small icebox --
saw first real show about 1950 -- sid ceasor ot milton berle ?

We had two and a half channels. CBS, NBC and sometimes ABC if the weather was right. And the kids were the remote control.
