I use mine, not sure how much it helps/hurts...

I took my sunshade off for a stage where it was going to be in the way and threw it in my pack. I still haven’t put it back on and that was about a year ago lol. They typically don’t hurt anything unless they are in the way for a small port position but most of the time they aren’t needed either.
