Water filters? What do you recommend?

Sawyer and if I have time iodine or bleach treatment.
Filtering and boiling are best, I have extra coffee filters for this at home.
.1 micron filtration will get most stuff out but viruses need a .02 micron filter and it will be super slow.
So that is why I say 2 step system if you have time.
Use a clear flowing water source if possible but that doesn't guarantee anything.
I have personally tested several creeks and streams in Georgia and the results could make you paranoid.
You can have all the bullets, food and toilet paper and be laid low by E-coli, Giardia Lamblia or Cryptosporidium.

Really depends on your intended purpose. I like to have at least a few different types. And sometimes several of a single type.
You could get;
Super small and light weight, really good for 1-2 people on the move for up to 1-4 weeks.
Med size with a mechanical pump. Still small enough for packing. More durable and would support more people for longer,
Or larger units for basecamp or outpost type use to support more people over time.
Lots of good filters now days.

sawyer squeeze, it can be easily cleaned by flowing clean water backwards through the filter, they last for YEARS. far longer than a lifestraw
Just throwing this out there. When it comes to purifying water there are many good methods and filters available. Some however require an extra step and understanding. In the case of chemical purification-- iodine/bleach etc., it is important to understand that these methods tend to kill gut bacteria, especially with prolonged use causing painful cramps, diarrhea and other intestinal problems. A supply of probiotic pills should also be on the prepared list when considering these methods of purification.
