I leave mine laying under the seat, and shotgun on the back seat. I drive a Subaru and keep a one human family sticker as well as a Bernie Sanders for president sticker on the bumper. No one will break into it thinking there is a gun there.....most of the time deception is better than physical security.

Gun in the vehicle to me is similar to having a seatbelt.
Better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.
Same time I operate on the assumption that all the other
vehicles are carrying guns and those folks know how to shoot.
Like Jax's deception rule. Could leave an old wallet in console
with 10 one dollar notes in it. Thief ideally will take off with that.
Find out he/she got ten bucks later. Hopefully you will have moved
the vehicle by then. oh yeah, it also helps security if you take the
NRA and Gluck stickers off the window. Research incomplete on
whether a used target with 5-10 bullseye strikes lying on the back
seat is a plus or a negative.
jmho a vehicle gun should be reliable and cheap. By cheap I mean
you won't get upset (much) if it goes missing, just go get a replacement.
May help to add some distinguishing features so easier to identify.
And if you ever have a justifiable reason to use it, you won't mind it
being in the evidence locker for quite awhile. If it is a cheap clunker
chances are pretty good it will still be in the locker if/when you get it back.
