Trudeau gun ban in Canada

Luckily the SC has said banning ammo is the same as banning guns. And calling a 'bump stock an 'accessory' is a stretch... it changed the method you actually fired the gun with, and needed an ATF ruling to be legal in the first place.

Although it is a good parallel for the Canadian system. The ATF defined bump stocks as legal through administrative decree, and they made them illegal just by reversing that decree.

yeah...next will be drop in triggers because they “change the way a gun fires”. It will make it easier to pull trigger, be more precise. “Sniper approved”. :pop2:

And scopes change the method in which you aim the gun and vertical grips the way you hold it, magazines the way you load it, etc... It was THE precedent that will bite us in the rear.
But yes, the stroke of a pen gives and takes away with the political whims of the person holding it, something that supposedly "shall not be infringed".

Great now you've started a panic buy.

Drop in triggers may change the rate of fire, but not HOW you fire it. You still do the same mechanical action to send a round downrange. As for the grips and mags, those are obviously 'accessories' in this discussion, since they have zero relation to how a particular action cycles.

The difference between a bump stock and all of those is that it fundamentally changes how the gun is fired.

When you install a bump stock, and have it in bump-fire mode, you don't fire the gun by pressing the trigger. In fact the pillar you place the pad of your trigger finger on is purposely made so that you CAN'T press the trigger. You could glue a dowel in there and your fingers would never need to touch the trigger at all, and it would still bump-fire just fine.

Instead you pull the rifle forward to shoot it, which is a fundamental change in the way the action works. That moves it out out of the class of an 'accessory' and into the class of fire control group... like it or not. Just because it's made of plastic doesn't mean anything. Just look at Lightning Links if you want to see a truly ridiculous 'machine gun'.

I'm not saying that it made it a real 'machine gun' or anything, I do agree that it really didn't meet the definition in the law about that.

But it certainly wasn't just an 'accessory' like a collapsible butt stock or a new handguard would be.

Do you all actually believe that these temporary local gun restrictions by Mayors/Govenors will be restored post beer flu season ? The AG in Ms. has filed a petition against the Jackson mayor for the unconstitutional ban. The DNC hated Beto for coming out & saying hell yes we'll take your guns because they wanted to keep it a big secret. Shudder to think how close anti-gunner Abrams came to winning.

In most states, maybe all, after the emergency declarations expire, the powers to regulate firearms by a municipal or state executive also expire. So, my answer would be: yes, by law the gun rights will be restored when the emergency declarations expire and are not extended further.
