Hello, ODT's! Hoping some of the more seasoned among use can give me some sage advice. I have this old Ruger 10/22 with metal barrel band and trigger guard. As you can see in the pics, the coating is coming off both and I would like to dress the old girl up a bit. Any advice on proper stripping and coating? Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Consider this a free bump for your question. I'm just guessing...

Probably some kind of baked on finish to you'd need to sand it off. There's different wheels for a Dremel that might work too. You could always test out some stripper or even brake parts cleaner to try and get it removed. I'd bet that duracoat or some bake on finish would be your best refinish option. There's hydro-dip too.

I love working on stuff like this though because whatever you do will be an improvement! Good luck.

Just media blast it off. It's the most economical and least labor intensive manner of removing finish and preparing it for refinishing

Cerakote is the best solution. Tear down the receiver, soak it in acetone to degrees, sandblast with 100grit aluminum oxide, bake in oven at 300° to gas out any contaminates. Mix cerakote, spray, bake in oven at 300° to cure.

I'd like to revise my previous guess and change to "pay FatAlbert". I love a good diy project but for $60, uh... done. You'd spend half that and many hours on a half-ass job yourself, lol.
