You might also try just using a straight mineral oil, not a synthetic blend.

Try 10W30. It won't hurt the engine.

It stopped, I added more Marvel Mystery Oil, took it for a drive and viola'. I think the oil pick up screen is/was clogged

get some Rotella 15w40 T4.

I used a FRAM oil filter this time. No idea about the oil pump, it's a 4.7 V8 with 192K

never mind about the oil pump gotta pull the front cover off to get to it

my 3.7 durango started tapping at 200K,i switched over to the rosella 15w40 t4,and at 250k it hasn't made any more noise

Install a new filter and cut the old one open to see what you have.

If a lot of carbon kernels, screen definitely the problem.

Btw, inspecting contents of used oil filter is sop for aircraft engines
