Surplus pistol disappointment

I bought a surplus Beretta 92s and when I received it I was unpleasantly surprised by this under the trigger guard.
Why do this?
Otherwise it's in fair

surplus condition.

Importers have to mark everything they bring in. That's actually a pretty nice job. Most importers just slap their info on the side of the gun and call it good. They went to some effort to make it discreet.

Fill it in with a gun blue touch up pen? Don't want exposed raw metal that could be the source of a rust spot, might calm it down a bit.

I’ve buffed the high points of the engraving down with emery, then hit with Birchwood Casey Aluma Black, like D Dundee suggested. That will minimize it.
