Suppressing an M1A?

I was told when one of mine was getting worked on that it is not a good idea. He said that the op rod wasn't designed for the impact that a suppressor causes. It can be done; just not recommended by Steve E.
 
I tried it with a socom and talked to the SP law enforcement rep who tried to talk me out of the project. It was a no go. I opted for an FN FAR. My Mini 14 300 blackout was quiet with the can. I fired two subsonic without and three with the can and sounded like a 22 henry. Ruger did a good job making that rifle for suppressed use.
 
Subbed for more info. I have an OSS low backpressure can and have been wanting to try this as well. My plan involves a forged op rod from fulton armory at bare minimum and see what happens.
