Steel targets stopped ringing. Why?

I guess they’re free swinging, no one snuck in and solid mounted them? Or attached some sound deadener to the back ‘cause the ringing hurt his little ears?

Sounds like steel that's lost its temper. I'm not sure what AR500/550's propensity to do so might be.

Have you noticed any exaggerated pitting of the targets compared to before when it was ringing normally?

Someone stick some DynaMat on the back and paint over it? haha

How many times have they been painted over 5 years? Paint build up?

Any crack (even if unseen, microscopic) anywhere will cause them to thud when hit. Just like a china bowl or dinner plate.
