Squirrels Galore

You Sir are definitely on a different level. But this thread makes me smile.

I just moved from a home in East Cobb with almost 2 acres. My choice killer was a .22 Stoeger suppressor airgun model with a Vortex 4x14 on top. It's deadly accurate to 50yds if it was a still day. My best day was 5 - thanks to my squirrel gettin' english setter who also hates squirrels. I knock them out of the tree and if needed - he'd make sure they didnt run far. Great times.

Frost still out there

here's a tip to attract or make a Squirrel show itself for a shot
when i shoot a Squirrel I use it as a decoy
I either let it lay, which is not as good as setting it up to look like its feeding, as in the photo above
the second Squirrel came to take a look and she ended up as a decoy

if you let it lay it does not look as natural
as if you set it up either on a rock or using small sticks
but
you have to walk over to get it and that puts every Squirrel on alarm

pros & cons you make the choice

i do the same with Deer, I shoot Does, the biggest one first and they usually drop or don't go far and I let them lay (if temps allow)
the others that were with her will come back

no dull moments in my woods
Freezer Full

Man great tip thanks for the info. I will be trying this.

if you can get the Squirrels set up even if it's the heads with hide attached from yesterday, (I save them in the freezer)

use a Mr. Squirrel Whistle works like magic

I sit close to the dead Squirrel and I tie a fishn line to a branch/limb by the dead Squirrel
pull this line when blowing the whistle, they come from everywhere

Great stategy aint it

and Fun too

being retired and living in the woods, i have plenty of leisure time

now if I can just sail that .410 I have listed
someone else can have some fun

I'm sticking with the 20ga & High Brass #4s

I have a 3/8 mile driveway and walk to the mailbox around noon, and usually get 2
that's when the 20ga comes in handy for the long shots

Gonna try out that break barrel H+R topper .410 single shot I bought from my father in law.

As of the restoration it doesent have a scratch on it but I haven’t fired it yet since I took possession but back in the late 80’s when I was dating his daughter I shot quite a few animals with it including a rabid raccoon.

Squirrels are on the top of my list.... they destroy and steal. Caught this one trying to steal one of my acorns but I got him.
