Last year I got 68 squirrels
wife makes the best Squirrel dumplings

it did not hurt the population
days like today they are searching for Hickory nuts and I got plenty of Hickory trees

I use a scoped .22

I have a .410 listed for sale and shot one off a limb; I paced the distance at 46 steps, using 3" #6
which seems far for a .410
I'm very impressed with the performance of a .410

skinning that tough Squirrel hide off several pellets were lodged right under the hide
some penetrated deeper
sure is nice not to have all those pellets like i get using a 20ga or a 12

I think the distance could be increased a little further with some #4's

hows your Squirrel huntn' going?

9 this AM before the rain

soon as I step out of the house they run, most are 80+ yards out foraging on the ground and still see me

they must have good vision

I missed several with the .22 shooting off hand, I'm not as steady as I used to be
tomorrow it's the Full Choke 20ga.

due to rain and the wind i have given the Squirrels a break since Sunday

plenty of Hickory Nuts laying everywhere, shot them off the limb while they chewed

a little windy today, and the temp has dropped 10* since 8am but some Squirrels were out

I took the Full Choke 20ga, using Game & Field Load 7/8oz #6 the first one dropped flipped around, ran a little then died

the second one fell and never moved, using Remington Express Extended Long Range 1oz #4

both shot at 30+ yards

I used the 7/8oz load because i didn't want to mess them up, I'll save those for the kids to shoot

the #4's are the ticket
and
the recoil difference between the loads was very noticeable

NOTE: my best call is the Mr. Squirrel Whistle, get one
