Sporterized C&Rs in the Classifieds

Anyone ever get excited to see a C&R pop up in the listings and then have your heart drop when you see the pictures of a chopped stock, etc.? Man...
Juat looking at "New posts" and seeing "G43" then opening the ad and seeing a Gluck.

If you want to be technical, sporterizing a gun makes it no longer c&r.

Or that used to be the rule. Had to be in original configuration.

There's a lot of confusion about this. A Q&A on the ATF webpage does say that C&Rs have to be in original configuration. However, ATF Pub 5300.11 states that all firearms become C&R at 50 years old (page 2), and that "original configuration" only applies to imported military firearms (page 10).

Very useful clarification. So all the Mausers and Mosins technically need to be unmodified.
