Speaking of rain barrels...

Usually those things are in either 8' or 10' sections , and not too often do you see a joint at water barrel height. When I put in some barrels I cut them to length to drop into the top. A hack saw is mandatory, and some of the correct type of crimpers sure do help.
One other way would be if you have a joint that is close enough where you could remove the downspout and put in a flex piece, those plastic ones that look like an accordion, and rout that to a barrel, would keep you from cutting.
