That's a hard way to learn. I've burned up a few decent reels Bass fishing. You have to have good equipment. I use Abu Garcia bait casters and after almost 35yrs I have a couple reels that are quite worn. And they're just 5000 series
They do make a hell of a reel.
Where do you fish at if you don’t mind me asking? Hybrid/Striper is my favorite to do besides crappie.
My father and I caught 2 in a row in dang near the same spot at the same time back in the 80s that were 10+. Big Boys for sure but at the time we just thought that was normal to catch fish that size on the tennessee river. So we didn't make them trophies.
Back when I bought those they had a lifetime warranty. I don't think that's the case anymore.

Yeah, my heart just dropped when that drag let go. She was a big girl.
My reels are older, also. The company has changed hands and many are of the opinion the quality might have suffered a bit.
