I believe the correct response would be for you to poop in the woods on top of the bear scat or beside it to let the bear know who the king of the woods is and to stand clear. At least that's what my stepfather did while we were out hunting in the mountains of northern California and we came across a deer bed kill where a mountain lion had pooped and a bear had come in to clean up and he pooped so my stepfather took his turn as he said "I'm king of these damn woods".
