Silver Wire/Electrodes

No particular reason I suppose. That's just the way I've been doing it since I started years ago making it. I took a piece of corian cutting board and drilled 2 small holes in it for the wire to go through. I put it over a measuring cup and run my wire down through the holes into the cup with distilled water and then clip my leads to the end of the wire. Nothing fancy but it works.

$14 30v ac converter and $36 in silver. Silver brewer on the cheap.

Cool beans, 30 volts? When I made mine everyone I talked to said you had to have 9V DC.
Voltage depends on volume and brew time. So it depends on how much/how quick you want to make it. A lot of people use 48-50v. Takes me 8-9 hours to brew 1gal. Easy to do since I just plug it into a lamp timer.
