I just got my approval today for my sbr. I did the form one for a 11.5” 5.56. From what I’ve read I can change uppers whenever I want. Is that right? This is my first NFA item so I want to be certain!

Yeah just remember you have to be able to convert it back to the approved configuration. Meaning kept possession of that 11.5 or any 11.5 upper but you can go shorter or longer
I saw that too. When you say keep possession of the 11.5 upper, does that mean if I go to the range, or hunt with a different caliber upper, I need to have it with me?

You don't have to have it with you 24/7 though right? How many ATF agents are out there checking rifles...

You don’t have to have it at all. You don’t even have to keep it in SBR format at all. You are requested to notify the ATF if you make a permanent change. You are requested, not required.

Also, with an AR it’s not possible to make a permanent change.
