So in September I picked up a new savage axis in 308 for my 12 year olds birthday. I have put around 40-50rds through the gun. Never had one issue till this passed weekend when we went hunting. I went to unload the after we got back to the truck and the bolt acted like it was sticking bad. I have cleaned everything I can but have not taken the bolt apart yet. It will only do it with a round in the chamber. If the gun is empty the bolt is fairly smooth. Has anyone had this problem? I have searched for two days and can’t find a similar problem

Clean the chamber. Wire brush and patches. Sounds like something is between cartridge case and chamber wall. I`ve had this happen. I have a Savage .270 that did this once. I spun a brass brush in a drill, inside the chamber. Problem solved.

take an empty case and paint it black, let it dry and put it in the chamber lock the bolt down and look and see if there are marks in the paint where it is grabbing then wire brush it
