Repairing flat screen TVs

Good info, OP.
Running expensive electronics behind a battery backup also seems to help protect against power surges.

Hard wired Ethernet connection killed the TV's computer mainboard and wireless module. Leaving it set up as wireless this time, to cut off that avenue of electrical attack.

Power supply wasn't damaged and I didn't have to replace it.

Thanks for posting. Movers damaged our tv (didn't know until like a month later) and the sound doesn't work right. If you push on the back of the tv in the right spot it will work for a while, then the sound cuts off again. :(

Haven't taken the back off yet to see if anything is obviously broken/loose.

Sounds like a loose speaker wire. If it's not an easy repair, you might consider a low cost soundbar. You'll get better sound than the TV puts out, and you won't have to trash the TV just because of sound problems.
